Yep, good stuff.

That was the first time I've knowingly heard a rotary trumpet. Can't hear the difference here but those short throw rotors could make the trumpet guys have 'pistons vs. rotors' debates, too.

The tubaman's double voicing on the solo parts was very good and appropriate for this piece.

He is Jon (Jonathan) Sass, born 1961 in Bronx.

And the rotary trumpet player is Hans Gansch, former principal in the Vienna Phil. Check out his "Song and Dance" on the Euro Brass Band CD from a few years back, its an absolute masterclass of cornet playing.

I do think I'd rather hear him play this music within the context of something OTHER than a brass quintet, but that's just me.
