I was torn. I gave him a Hirsbrunner. What do you all think would have been best for the Gipper?

That's pretty cool, although I would've suggested something more "All-American", like a King or Conn.

You also couldn't get more Yankee than a sousaphone, but that would just be comical. ;)

Or, maybe something from one of his movies?

Leland, you took the words right out of my mouth. Reagan (IMHO) had a greatness unlike any other American in my lifetime, but he also had a human-ness, a down-home "regular-guy" quality that even his political foes found utterly disarming. I think he'd say "oh, just give me a sousaphone", then with a twinkle in the eye he'd say "and make it one with short action valves".

I can see/hear him saying that. That's just the kind of comment he would make.

Your intuitiveness is astounding.

Doc
Ronald Reagan is, without a doubt, the most influential person of the latter half of the 20th century. I've read every book I can find on the man, from both his supporters and detractors. I've read and re-read all of his speeches and essays. I think I've probably got as good an understanding of the man as anyone could get without meeting him.

Then he'd charge it to his credit card!

Excuse me for not taking the time to rebut you. This is no more the time for political debates than was the funeral of Paul Wellstone.

Another day, however, I will welcome this exchange.
