Interesting that even in ensemble with 5 trombones, the tone of the tuba still dominates (or is that just my ear a tuned to the sound of a tuba?)

No, definitely not. Some time ago I talked to Hendrik Jan Renes and know that he owns a Thein F-tuba but doesn't play it any more.
Wow, when I met him, he said he love it and that it cost a crap ton of money (he wouldn't tell me exactly how much). I wonder if he plans to keep it?

That is a perfect example of what a great foundation an F can provide in the right hands. I wonder what mouthpiece he uses? Sounds deep cup to me! Looks possibly a PT?
In any case it sure inspires me sound wise on my F
