the pic that is smoothed was captured directly from the post you made with the Dickel whisky. All I did was to paint the background black in microsoft paint.
To crop, I use 2 programs that I got with my Canon scanner.
One is "ArcSoft Photobase 3". The other is "ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5". Here is the resized blue background avatar (80x80).
p.s. I did nothing to smooth it. In fact, when the resized pic first came up on tinypic.com, it looked rough as well. The result, however is smooth.
