25th February 1957: An American who believed in gimmicks brought his band to the UK in 1907. Amongst the instruments recently found from that trip was this sub-contra bass tuba. That looks like the tuba that Paxman (London horn maker) built for Gerard Hoffnung's first Hoffnung Festival of Music in the mid-1950s.
