Watch if you dare. But please watch considering the year, the nationality, and the place. Not as wild as Mvrinsky's 1961 recording, BUT EXCITING AS HELL. For those of us who still relish nationalistic playing characteristics, this one's for you. Oh yeah, a 5 valve tuba is being used. Go figure.

Chuck, that was an experience! Just watching the conductor's "tongue-in-cheek" gestures and expressions was worth the price of admission. That may be the "best" Tchaik. 4/4 I have ever heard or played, and even if it wasn't it sure was the most fun. Thanks for posting — otherwise I would likely never have discovered it! ... Excellent find and thanks for sharing. Quite exciting. The string playing is excellent. The tuba player has a fine sound and looks to be asleep.
