I'm reminded of the clip of the young Asian student band posted in this forum a short while ago...I'll bet they don't do that, and I'll bet they get much more accomplished because of it.
Seemed familiar to me too. I always had a theory that if kids practiced more on their own time, they wouldn't be so mesmerized by making sounds on the instrument during class on the director's time. There's a HUGE difference between *practice* and *rehearsal*.Todd S.
