Allegro from Shostakovich 10 - Tuba Octet

Post by nimrod480 »

Hi guys and gals,
I would like to share with you a video from our school tuba octet playing the Allegro from Shostakovich 10th Symphony.
The performance took place as part of the recent OcTubafest here at Indiana University (16/10/2011).

The ensemble is made up from -
Euphoniums: Keith Kile, Kennedy Wells, Curtis Prichard and Chris Leslie.
Tubas: Matt Hightower Andy Smith Genevieve Clarkson and myself Nimrod Ron.

The extremely cool arrangement was done by the great Matt Hightower!

Thanks everyone for watching!

Very cool. Of course I love the original. But it's a good arrangement.

It is, indeed, a fine arrangement of the Shostakovich. Who wrote it and by whom is it published?

The (presumably live with no editing) performance is superb. It has the precision and balance of a studio recording with multiple takes. My impression is that it works best with one on a part rather than as a large TTEE choir. I'll probably be proved wrong by our friends at Tenn. Tech or elsewhere.
