Piggy Pics

Post by TubaTodd »

I'm currently working on getting all of my funds lined up to purchase a Cerveny piggy. Since I will likely be joining the piggy owners' brotherhood, I thought I would start this post.

Post a picture of YOUR piggy here.

Here's mine. Circa 1971 Walter Sear model with thermometer bottom 2nd valve slide and Rudolf Meinl Valve paddle assembly. Great playing horn.

Awesome Roger. I've never seen one like that. Is it just me or is the total width of the horn a bit slimmer?

No, it's pretty good sized and quite a handful. I had a newer one and they were quite similar in how they felt as to the width. This horn just has a lot of character to it. I've been playing it a lot lately as, since the knee injury, I want to use the lightest horn in my collection and the one that I can retire if something happens to it. (But that's not likely).

If you want to hear it in a recording go here: http://pronovamusic.com/sounds.html" target="_blank" target="_blank
and go to the piece Brass Quintet (1988). Make sure you turn off the tune that is playing when you get there or it gets pretty weird.

Good luck with your search.

Bravo Roger!! Terrific playing! This Piggy is very similar to the one I used to have. I think mine was from '70 or '71. They were a little larger feeling, slightly wider and the bell seemed to be a little taller than current models. One of my former students, Eric Stevens, in Nashville now has mine and sounds great on it. They were capable of making lots of sound as your recording just indicated! We'll talk soon Rog.

Hi-
So where are all the 'piggy pics?' If everything is so quiet on these, it must be the 'piggy mafia'....... :D

My Yahoo-based brass galleries have a few Piggy entries. Search for Piggy in the index:

YEY! I can now proudly post a picture of my pig.

It still needs some TLC, but it is a fine horn. The more I play it the more I enjoy it.

According to my Czech-born neighbor, it's pronounced something like Chair-vin-knee, accent on first syllable. It means "the red one".

Here is mine. Early 70's with an added 5th. I've had her since '92.

Annie looks great. I really miss having a 5th valve. I'll be working around it. So far I'm really enjoying my pig.

chair-vEn-ee
"ven" as in "vendor" and "ee" as in "jeep".)

It does mean "the red one", but as far as I know it´s the surname of the founder of the company.
