I have watched alot of Mnozil brass on my iPod I watched this one on a big screen and noticed for the first time that the mouthpiece on the tuba is at a slight angle is that Herr Brandstotters design?

I saw Mnozil Brass at ITEC in Linz last Friday - absolutely incredible!!!

I have seen players with an army band, where trombone and trumpets have to be parallel to the ground use mouthpieces like Herr Brandstotter. These mouthpieces, from what I quickly observed were just commercial mouthpieces that had had their shank cut off, then trimmed to the desired angle ( 30˚) and then soldered back together. The back bore seems to have been adjusted. I imagine that if one wante one of those a mouthpiece maker could probably come up with a solution.

I am not looking to get one I was just curious to see if anybody knew if it was bent for comfort or tone.

Well, In the army bands that I saw that used these, the mouthpieces were bent so that the players could hold their horns parallel to the ground. By the looks of it, Herr Brandstotter seems to have a "down bite." The angled mouthpiece probably helps him hold the horn comfortably with a harness and move around. Therefore, probably more for comfort that anything else.

And, I had the fortune of seeing Mnozil Brass in March in Baton Rouge, LA, USA and last Friday in Linz, Austria. What a talented group of guys! So kind and humble, too. I spoke with Willi and Leonhard afterwards and they were very kind.

Yes, that was a remarkable performance, Linz was.
It was also cool to listen to Thomas Gansch performing with Wycliffe Gordon later that night. Pure fun !!

Mnozil Brass has a neat sense of humor, too: on their published arrangements, rather than a boring "copying is illegal" kind of note, they chose to include a line running like this:

"IF You copy this, You´ve got to play it, too !"

At least might fend off amateurs
