Euphonium Lamp

Post by PMeuph »

The recent topic with the sousaphone chair reminded me that I should share some pictures of my euphonium lamp. I built this lamp about three years ago but had to fix it this summer. The lamp is made from a trashed boosey & co euphonium that I bought for parts and the hopes of using it as a wall hanger. It had previously been used as a flower pot and had about 25 holes in the bottom bow.

The base of the lamp is made out of oak. Two pieces of 2x6 were laminated together side by side. Another piece is glued on top and fastened with screws. (The screws were then hidden with wood putty) The horn is held to the base with a 6" bolt with washers on both ends. Last summer I added a little block of oak inside the bottom bow to make sure it doesn't collapse.

The light bulb is taken from a lamp my grandparents had. I added a pine disk around the socket this summer so that the lamp wouldn't wiggle left to right. The chain to turn on the light was passed through one of the pre-existing holes.
