Check out the band in the lower right of this photograph: lots of tubas, euphoniums and tenor horns. Sadly, the crowd doesn't seem overly impressed.

My wife's 88-year-old grandmother grew up just outside of Detroit, near Lake St. Clair. I'll have to ask her what she remembers about this. She has a memory like a steel trap, so if she ever went, I'm sure she'll remember.
