Below are links to dropbox for recordings of the community orchestra I play in. We had a pretty good crowd for our last concert on Sunday. I would appreciate any feedback you have. We put this concert together in about nine rehearsals. The theme was "Epic Landscapes." Sorry for any of the flubs you hear on my part! Hope you enjoy!

Mars - Holst

Molly on the Shore - Grainger

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Williams

Marche Slav - Tchaikovsky

Star Wars - Williams

Very nice -- I especially enjoyed the Tchaikovsky. That must have been a fun concert to play, lots of good tuba stuff in there!

Thanks bort!

It was very fun to play. It's funny you mentioned the Tchaikovsky...our assistant/associate (I can't remember his title) conductor is a string guy who teaches in the public schools and so he doesn't get to work with winds very much. At one of the last rehearsals, he ran the ending of that about four times! The trombones and I were about ready to die...

Very nice concert, Jordan. Thanks for the links for those of us who didn't make it.

I understand your conductor is a brass player (horn?), so his repertoire is more likely to include full brass arrangements. This program would certainly bear that out. :)

I've only tried to play a band transcription of 'Mars' where the tubas have to carry all of the seemingly endless '1-and-ah/2/3/4-and/5' 5/4 figures in the work. String basses seem better suited for it because breathing correctly and a wandering mind didn't go together too well for me. :( As usual John Williams throws in a lot of low tuba notes that can get muddy at tempo, but you did a great job!

Thanks for the compliments Jerry! Yes, our conductor is a horn player, so he does like his brass features.

Another funny thing was this:

This was the first program where they listed me as the *principal* tubist! That sounds fancy! :D

Thanks for sharing.

Your conductor should have had you play the missing contrabassoon lines.
