As I reach to find the possible uses for a double-bell euphonium in today's world, I'm trying to be flexible. The only hints we have from old literature don't give much guidance, except for an "echo" effect and the obvious switching of bells when playing with trombones. So my newest effort is to use the little bell for "yodel" emulation. I started with a fairly simple song, The Lonely Goatherd from Sound of Music. See what you think:

This is fun stuff. Having recently restored a double bell, I am interested in the uses of this instrument. The Two Harbors City Band now has 2 of these horns that we play each week. A feature piece is planned, but nothing is set yet. Keep these examples coming. I know of an old record shop that might have old recordings. Let me know who to look for.

I have never heard an old recording (i.e. pre-1950) where a double-bell is featured using both bells. That is part of the knowledge gap we have as we try to figure out what to do. If you find any, please let us know!opus37 wrote:...I know of an old record shop that might have old recordings. Let me know who to look for.
