Great pic! There were a couple of episodes where he played tuba with the band on the show. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome - I thought this was a pretty cool picture, too.
(To me, it looks like a Conn/Pan American E flat.)
Since this is a "candid" picture of him at home, I've got to assume he was a tuba player in private life.

I drove through Mt. Airy, NC a couple of years ago. I should have paid a visit to the Andy Griffith museum to see if there was anything tuba-related there!

I just watched a 1970's interview with Andy Griffith where he says he played sousaphone in the UNC Chapel Hill marching band.
