Hi all-

I am very pleased to announce the second release from Cocek! Brass Band: "Round Two".
We are a small Balkan-ish brass band, based in Boston - trumpet, rotary flugelhorn, trombone, tuba and tapan.

Check it out for free here: http://cocekbrassband.bandcamp.com/album/round-two" target="_blank
I really hope you enjoy it! This is one of my favorite projects to date.

Please watch for us in the coming months as we tour a bit to support this release.
Catch us if you can, and be sure to stop by and say hi.

cheers!
Jim

This is premium! I'm only half way through. I used to play in this genre, and I would have said I'd heard about enough of it really, but can't stop listening to this - not just another balkan brass band.

Thanks, Donn and Levaix - very glad that you enjoyed it!
Pass it around.

This is one of my favorite groups to play in.
Really fun and talented bunch.
If you like the CD, you should try to catch it live.
We spend a lot of our time down in the crowd - it's a real party...

best-
Jim

Wonderful stuff! I am surprised that it looks like you all have not performed at the Somerville HONK Festival ( http://honkfest.org )

Thanks, Dave-

We've been invited to do many Honk festivals, but it's never quite worked out.
Also looking for a good excuse to hit the West coast - just a matter of time.
Our leader (Sam) is from Portland.
I'll look you up when we make it out there.

Cheers-
Jim

Several folks have asked about equipment on this recording, so I figured I'd share here...

I used my rotary Fafner w a Kanstul 30 (like a Laskey 30h but w a sharper rim).
I was in an iso-booth w 26' ceilings (!) and a vintage large diaphragm condenser mic suspended a foot or so above my bell.

Our engineer was fantastic and did a great job of capturing the sound in my head.
As an aside - rotary valve tubas tend to work much better than pistons (for me) in the studio, when on a close mic.

Overall: lots of fun, and a product we are quite proud of-
Thanks for listening!
