Got this thing in a trade. Fixed it up a little. I quite like the sound.

Great tuba! The traditional way to set the slides for a 3-valve tuba that you can't "ride" the 1st valve for intonation (as, for example, on a 186):

1) make sure the open bugle is in tune with itself octave to fifth to octave, Bb - F - Bb, and if not, split the difference;
2) tune 1st valve Ab/Eb, and if there is a difference, split the difference;
3) tune 2nd valve A/E, and if there is a difference, split the difference;
4) pull 3rd valve so that 2+3 Gb and Db are slightly flat but still easy to lip to tune;
5) check 1+3 C and low F, should only be slightly sharp and very lippable;
6) check 1+2 G and D, and if sharp, pull 1st just a hair, and then re-check 1st valve Ab & Eb that they are still lippable to pitch;
7) good luck lipping down on 1+2+3 B nat and low E nat.

To be quite honest, I didn't know that there was even a "set up" involved in tubas. I am going to have to try this method on mine to see if it helps to iron out any of the intonation issues.
