You might possibly (??) be under a slight geographic misconception as to my location. We're absolutely parched. A couple of days ago, we had about 1/2" of rain (the most significant rain in weeks). It has rained all around us, and "dribbled" on us, but (mostly) western Tennessee, northeastern Arkansas, and southeastern Missouri are in a severe drought. Though the grass isn't completely dead - as, again, we've had a dribble or two - I've even seen some large patches of (very drought-resistant) zoysia grass retreat to needle-width blades.

(If not "rain", but "wind"...??) the highest velocity winds we've had around here lately have been c. 10 - 15 mph...perhaps when severe storms have passed within a hundred-or-so miles of here.

Finally, I'm "bloke", not "Bloke".

However, WE got bombed and had to pull off the road about six times just to get to town. Awful rain and winds. Are we getting hit by a tropical storm or depression? I have not seen the news in a week... And Chuck, I live about three hours south of bloke, which puts us about four hours from the Gulf. (Yazoo City, MS)

Indeed it is. If you ever visit Chip Oaks on the south side of the James River near Smithfiled, you can thank my wifes family for donating it to the State of Virginia to use as a historical sight. She is a direct descendent of Abraham Jones who settled @ Smithfield in the early 1600's. She has many long past relatives who fought in "The War of Northern Agression". The odd thing is that everytime I watch "Gettysburg" she will sit there and point out her relatives who are re-enactors. My mother always used to kid her by saying that both of our families probably shot at each other at the battle of Gettysburg.

Gotta Love the South. Or not.
