Re: Update Update
I dug my pre-lit ten-footer out from under the staircase this morning. I bought it as a post-season closeout about twenty years ago. I go through the ritual of replacing burned-out lights on it at the beginning of each Christmas season. This time I put in 99 new bulbs. This tree must have at least 4,000 lights on it!bort wrote:Just sayin... It's too early for Christmas.

Yes, and it seems to arrive earlier every year.bort wrote:Just sayin... It's too early for Christmas.
All this, considering Christmas doesn't actually start until December 25, and doesn't end until January 6.
However, Advent arrived (yesterday) right on time this year

I've been spending too many hours looking for a nice pair of over-the-ear wireless headphones and I am still no closer to making a decision.

My mother is going into hospice today, probably. Thursday, Thanksgiving day, was her 91st birthday. I will be traveling to northwest Illinois soon.

Bless her! I am sorry whenever I hear of someone going into hospice care, but those folks do great work keeping patients comfortable. I don't know if I could do that work day after day.
Bearin' up!

Re: Update Update
Dear Bloke, I really feel sorry for all your mother-in-law has gone through. My parents had decided they wanted no extreme, artificial measures to prolong life. She went into hospital Sunday before Thanksgiving. When the doctors said she would need a feeding tube into her stomach, she went to hospice instead. My father was with her when she died. None of us kids (we are all 60+) got up to see her. He said she wouldn't have wanted to be seen that way anyway. She died peacefully and with dignity. When it is time, I wish the same for me and for your mother-in-law also.
Thanks to all for the sympathy expressed to all of us who are experiencing loss.

Re: Update Update
Can't have that happening Last week we had a long spell of days near or over the 100 degree mark and by Monday my 70yr old body had had enough. Ambulance to hospital to stabilise angina and get the kidneys working again. It was no fun but home after a day. I finally decided to invest in a portable airconditioner for the bedroom. Seems we are in for a long HOT summer.

Damn, Ken. Glad you're okay. I think the AC unit will prove to be a wise investment.
