One of these games I'm going to see if I can hook up a camera into my sousaphone to get some video...
Congratulations on winning the audition is one of your sousaphones that is damaged or the bands?
It's the band's... Fixed the bottom bow and third slide today, and most of the bell. Just need to burnish the small dents out on the universal mandrel with the HARPOON
I've been fortunate to play several concerts under Colonel Gabriel's baton - the last being a couple years back at the MidWest band clinic. I always walk away shaking my head at how much I learn and how much my playing benefits. I always forget how old he really is as he seems to have not lost any mental sharpness or passion for the music.
I love pitch. Bits of it are stuck all around my kitchen from bending leadpipes. Unfortunately, my wife does not.
I was wondering just the other day how all of that worked out! If you use pitch much... go to Goodwill and purchase an old crock-pot. You'll have to plug it in several hours before you need it but there won't be much risk of overheating it.

Installed a bell, broken kranz, and a leadpipe on a Kaiser BBb - Made for FW Schimdt. Bore of about .846" and about an 18-19" bell.
The previous person who took it apart messed up the kranz trying to pull out the wire inside and roll out the bell. Talked with Dan who said we'd have to buy a new kranz, which wasn't going to happen, so we both had the idea to take out the wire and mount the kranz on the bell.
Used 50/50 solder... really easy to use, it flow a bit more than the 63/37, but it works well.
Next up is a USN King monster Eb and a Holton monster Eb. I'll just be taking dents out and mounting all the parts that I can find. So far, I located the bottom bow of the King and the bell for the Holton. The valveset on the Holton is cut up and parts appear to have been removed AND torn off. I'm going to dig around for the King valveset tomorrow.
Also worked on the Boosey & Hawkes Eb - need to bend a leadpipe and mount the receiver.
A tornado moved through about 1 mile south of here at about 6am. Some roofs were blown off in Downtown Newburgh and a couple of houses immediately northeast of Downtown damaged. No injuries have been reported.
Welcome to the Mid-West and an early start of tornado season!

Ice here. Not as bad as twisters, but treacherous.

We got about an inch of slushy snow and had cars spinning out and driving off the highway and crashing into each other all morning yesterday. More of the same today... Good thing there's no real snow, and that the temps aren't freezing.
