I dated a number of flute players in high school and college, though I wound up marrying a trombone player I met in grad school.

Doesn't this require a story starting out, "This one time at band camp..."

I not only dated a flute player, I married her. Our High School band director, when learning about our marriage, said, "You deserve each other." We have been happy together for 42 years. We regularly play in community bands together.

My wife was a horn player when I met and married her, but she started life as a flute player. Then she saw the light and came to the brass side! :D

My wife was a flute player. I didn't meet her until she was in grad school and hadn't played the flute since HS... but I guess it still counts! :D

Seems like most tuba players I know with musician wives (or husbands) seem to be tuba/flute or tuba/horn couples.

I've tried tuba/tuba before -- doesn't work. (Does it ever work?)

Only if they have a better horn than you, and you can use it whenever you want... 8)

Tuba/horn works better for me than tuba/flute did, for what it's worth. One consideration there is that horn players can fairly easily learn to play Eb alto horn.

I enjoyed reading these posts. Fascinating that there are tuba and flute player couples--I'd never have thought it. I have never dated a flute player. I was a flute player, though. So if I play both the flute and the tuba, I wonder who I'll marry?

Funny thing is that I have never dated anyone who was a musician in any way, though music is a vital part of my life...perhaps now is my chance!

Both of my sisters played flute - even though I grew up in the south, the idea of dating or marrying them is creepy :)

As for the 3rd flute/piccolo player that was in Youth Symphony - she was sweet and always seemed to be sitting out the piece I had to sit out.

My girlfriend is not an instrumentalist. She is a leading first soprano however. So if voices were instruments, I guess first soprano would be pretty close to flute. Maybe? I don't know. I'm going back to my practice room now.
