There's no stopping them, though, it seems - an hour and a half later, a spam for kitchen remodels or something showed up right alongside this thread.

Yeah, seems like some people will always find a way to turn free stuff into a problem. Services that send or call for free are essential for spam. If we had to pay a penny for every email we send, a nickel for every phone call we make, then I wouldn't get hundreds of spam messages every day, and I could start answering my phone with the expectation it's someone who knows who I am and has some business calling me.

Why are they registering here and spamming? For what?

I recall online searches for "tuba" confounded with some kind of granite called "uba tuba", used for kitchen counter tops. Maybe they think that's what we're up to here, bunch of big granite heads? Kind of far fetched, but I can't think of any other obvious culinary connection. The egg pizza thing notwithstanding.

I own a Facebook group and a yahoo list group. On Facebook it is bots that come in and try to join, and they set up a profile of a sexy young woman with a blank background and ask to join the group. They get blocked. On yahoo, I had to change the list to moderator-approved joinees because we kept getting ladiesofthenight postings; they have to actually say why they want to join, and make a modicum of sense doing so. You have to stay on top of it for sure.

The most prevalent is for kitchen updates, but the company is based allegedly in Indonesia.
Company in Indonesia? I don't get it.

I think they mean the spam stuff. They advertise something from Indonesia.

according to wikipedia
"In computing, a denial-of-service (DoS) or distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. A DoS attack generally consists of efforts to temporarily or indefinitely interrupt or suspend services of a host connected to the Internet."
in other words crash their site by overloading their servers.

But it's all automatic, right? I mean spam isn't usually made by a human being?

These are real people signing up posting lame tubenet message board responses to appear legit, but really just concerned with driving traffic to a site, regardless of if anyone actually cares about it. Desperate, sorry people.
+1
maybe if they get DDOS'ed they'll stop posting here.

I don't know, but if you add a couple of letters to it, you can make the word dildos.
