For three years, I have been the assistant jail administrator. Tomorrow I get sworn in as the county's chief bailiff. I also play upright bass with Billy Mata & The Texas Tradition, an award-winning band. Also an inductee into the Western Swing Hall of Fame.

Doc, I don't play the upright bass, so I gotta ask: what's the deal with the f-holes on that gorgeous blonde?

That sounds like the set-up to an off-color joke, but I'm also legitimately curious. Congratulations on your new position!

In exchange for money, I teach students about Sam Adams, Frederick Douglass, and other fine folks.

I make all my money playing the tuba in an orchestra, but that is just my day gig until I get that table waiting gig I have been dreaming of since I was about 14 years old.

Yeah, I was curious about those white F holes too. Could it be beer suds leaking out of Doc's instrument. Naw, probably not. Doc doesn't like beer. LOL

The f holes on my blond are filled with white foam rubber (yes, that does seem to sound like bedroom talk). Helps minimize feedback. If you'll notice under the tailpiece a black block. It is a piece of hard foam covered in a black sock to dampen the vibrations that can cause feedback. (wow, that whole paragraph could be taken the wrong way).

Well, I like the idea of beer foam. The body of the bass is clear and contains beer with the foam coming out the holes. Hmm... I can live with that.

That looks like a "Sound Spot" pickup. That is what I use. I will try the foam/sock to work on my feedback issues. You do not use a pickup/mic combination mixed at your cab? I have wanted to try that, but it costs...
