A little bit of Googling and you can find an article from a few years ago on Molly Pate, the principal horn in the LPO. I think it said her pay from the orchestra was around 19K. To make ends meet, she taught lessons and worked as a bartender!

I would like to make a comment about the tuba position in the LPO. This orchestra has been given a big opportunity with there new music director Carlos Miguel Prieto. I have the great privilege of having him as my music director in both the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa www.sinfonicadexalapa.com in Xalapa, Mexico and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería www.sinfonicademineria.org in Mexico City. Carlos has been in Xalapa for 4 1/2 years and has achieved alot including several recordings, a European tour, a new concert hall and an overall improvement of the orchestra. He is a fine musician and conductor. He also has an Ivy League education and comes from an affluent Mexico family. However, what sets him apart from the rest is that he is one of the most humble and accessible people you will ever meet and you cannot help but being inspired in many ways when you’re around him. Tuba positions are rare and the LPO has suffered alot over the years and I can only imagine the journey they face after such tremendous devastation in New Orleans. However, I truly believe that if anyone can take this orchestra to another level, CMP is the guy. This could be an exciting time for this orchestra the individual who wins this position will be very fortunate. Best wishes to all the folks taking the audition!!
