UGA Grad Assistantship for Fall 2010

Post by David Zerkel »

The Tuba Grad Assistantship for UGA will be open in the fall of 2010. The assistantship actually belongs to Professor Fred Mills, not me. As such, the duties of the assistantship are:

10 hours a week of rehearsing in the Graduate Brass Quintet
3 hours a week in Georgia Brass, a large ensemble made up of the grad quintet and the faculty quintet
Performance in a large performing organization such as UGA Symphony or UGA Wind Ensemble is expected.

The assistantship includes a full tuition waiver and a generous stipend (approximately $11,000)

A few things to note:
Before we schedule an audition/interview, I'd like to hear a CD of the playing you are most proud of.
You can learn about audition requirements and other information about the studio and UGA here.
UGA's Grad School is enamored with the GRE. You will need to take the test. Sooner is better than later.
Students who are very well qualified academically may be eligible for the Graduate School Assistantship, which is appreciably more lucrative in terms of the stipend. To be considered for this award, you should have a GPA of 3.8 or better and a GRE score of 1250 or better. So, even if you are not selected for the Quintet Assistantship, other opportunities may exist. This is especially important for euphonium players looking for funding!
Students wishing to apply for this position should arrange to have their audition sometime before February 1.

If you have any questions at all about the studio, UGA or Athens, feel free to shoot me a note at dzerkel@uga.edu" target="_blank
