I just wanted to give Steve a little nod by saying that he is a GREAT teacher and you could not go wrong by giving the U of M a look. The school is great and is located in between two amazing cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). Minneapolis/St. Paul is home to both the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra which means that multiple opportunities to hear world class orchestras exist almost every weekend. Minneapolis/St. Paul also has the second largest Broadway scene outside of NYC. The U of M School of Music also offers great scholarship money IF your GPA fits the bill. The large classical ensembles and their conductors at the school are top notch. If you are interested in doing conducting work as well as playing, Craig Kirchhoff conducts the wind ensemble and is an AMAZING pedagogue/human/conductor. The orchestra is conducted by Mark Russell Smith. The group performs challenging repertoire and offers multiple (2 or 3 a semester) master classes/ side by side rehearsals/ sectionals with members of the Minnesota Orchestra. Give the school a look! Best, Josh Lee p.s. There are also great places to eat, drink, and see sporting events!
