Euphonium and Tuba Auditions at West Texas A&M

Post by Jeremy Lewis »

Greetings Fellow Musicians,

I would like to extend an invitation to those of you who’re thinking about a career in music to consider West Texas A&M University for your higher education needs.

At WT we have an 11:1 student to teacher ratio. This means that as a music major you will get the individual time that you deserve as a student. At WT you will study with a faculty member, not a grad student.

Our music department offers undergraduate majors in Music Performance (Instrumental, Vocal, and Composition), Music Education (All Level), Music Therapy and Music with elective studies in Business. WT also offers Master of Music and Master of Fine Arts degrees. An audition in your primary performance medium (tuba or euphonium) is required for admission to the Department of Music. There will be scholarship auditions January 29th, February 27th, and April 10th.

Not only does WT boast of some of the lowest tuition in the state of Texas, but there are also scholarships available through the Music Department as well as financial aid if you apply to the school by February 1st.

There are many performance opportunities at WT; the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, two jazz bands, and the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble. Students also perform at least once a semester during Brass Seminar, a weekly recital specifically for brass players. We also have a student-lead tuba quartet as well as a student brass quintet.
At the moment, the WT Tuba-Euphonium consists of 16 music majors, and is growing!

WT is located in Canyon, TX which is just fifteen miles south of the much larger city of Amarillo. Canyon is also just fifteen miles west of Palo Duro Canyon , the second largest canyon in the United States.
