In the interest of keeping fellow Tubenet members up to date, I went straight to the source for any available info regarding this position and contacted the MSO regarding this position. My request follow and the response follow:

Subject: The MSO Website - "Contact Us" Form Response
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Comment Recipient,
Following are the submission details of the "Contact Us" form.
First Name: Ken
Last Name: Herrick
Email Address: kenshorse1@bigpond.com" target="_blank
Phone Number: (07) 4693 7060/ 0427 771 706
Question / Comment: There has been a request for further information regarding the previously announced upcoming audition for the position of Principal Tuba on "Tubenet" viewtopic.php?f=13&t=35338" target="_blank
Assuming this to still be on the cards, would there be a chance of listing the audition requirements, possibly with PDF files of excerpts as has been done elsewhere. ie Vienna Philharmonic?
I would be happy to pass any information on for you,
Regards,
Ken Herrick
Dear Ken,
As has been implied on the forum this audition has not yet been advertised, when we are ready to advertise (hopefully before the end of the year) it will be placed on http://www.mso.com.au" target="_blank and http://www.musicalchairs.info" target="_blank including any available information about required orchestral excerpts. Until this time, I can’t provide any further details – we also have very specific guidelines around timely release of excerpts which will be included in the advertisement.
Best wishes,
Angela.

This is a very good orchestra and this position would be VERY well worth winning. It is a full time, well paid position. The orchestra has been very well received in international circles.
Melbourne is a large, cosmopolitan city which has everything (about 3 million).
Prospective candidates should be of a standard which might be expected in any MAJOR orchestra.
Possibly Cam could tell you more about the work conditions . Alternately, Steve Rose of the Sydney Symphony might be willing and able to give some insight.
