Talent Grants at Western Illinois University!!!!

Post by Slamson »

Time once again for Western Illinois University to announce that the School of Music has some excellent financial aid packages for Tuba players (I think they have aid for other musicians, but who cares?)

At WIU, we ALSO offer Talent Grants in addition to out regular scholarship program. Auditioning at Western Illinois makes you eligible for both forms of funding. Scholarships are competitive, based on the usual criteria of testing scores, GPA, class standing, and nice letters from nice people, but TALENT GRANTS are based on TALENT and NEED.

This year I will be losing a couple of my better players, and while I have some great students coming along, our Director of Bands (and the orchestra’s Music Director) want to beef up their low brass, so there is additional grant money for “Talented Tubas”! Talent grants are available to players regardless of their choice of majors, and at WIU we have a ton of choices! Our undergraduate programs include:
Applied Music (Performance)
Music Education (100% placement rate for the last 10 years!)
Music Therapy (one of the oldest programs in the country)
Jazz Studies
Music Business (also one of the oldest programs in the country and one of the first to be certified by NAMM), with electives in Marketing, Management, and Arts Technology.
Composition
And – a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Performance.

Anyone receiving a Talent Grant will receive a minimum of 25% of their tuition bill, up to 100% of it, in addition to any scholarships they may receive.

WIU gives these Talent Grants to Music Majors, but also to talented non-majors, so if you are considering a different type of degree, this may be a good way to pay for it! To find out, please check out our webpage:

and you can watch live streaming of our concerts on YouTube! Our orchestra is performing on December 8th, at 7:30CST:
