Its official, not because the job is stated on here, but I heard the story which I will not post on here. I do not know if it was true, but I heard the same thing from 2 different people who don't know each other (I think) and I wonder where Mr. Graves is going.

I know when big openings are posted, especially something this big, I would have heard about it. I had heard a rumor the job was open from someone who said they saw it on some website stating there was a job opening at Baylor, I believe even the assistant professor rank. However, when this was viewed by my source on the website, the application deadline had passed.

I know at several universities, if they decide to make a tenure track position (or full time) open, regardless of who is there and how long they have been there, they have to make a national search.

I have not heard anything from Baylor students, though my ex-director of bands whom I miss is there, but I had heard a rumor that the professor was only planning on being there one more year.

There is good stuff happening there tuba wise, 2 tuba artist semifinalists in falcone, 2 names I've never heard, and I know 2 other amazing players there.
I was just posting, not really out of necessity for a long drawn out response explaining something that I already knew...but...thanks anyway

Congrats to both Kent and Mike!!!

(and after reading my initial post, I realize it makes NOOO sense and not even close to what I mean...it was supposed to be a sarcastic jot for fun.....but to no avail!. :P ...lol...so no worries)

Yes the Tuba Euphonium position originally held by David Graves was vacant and has been filled. Just because you didn't hear about it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Thanks for the warm sentiments, Tony! I really am going to miss NC and UNCSA (and even Tony!), but I am looking forward to Washburn.

Might be better to just state that a trombonist was hired, rather than a tuba or euph player. "Last choice" makes it sound like this person is really not worthy of the job, which is likely not the case.

David, you provide very sound advice! Indeed, I know the person hired and he is an excellent choice for any job such as this one (great player/experienced band director). I am not sure of the original poster's information source or motivations (i.e. sour grapes or sour grapes of someone he/she knows), but I do know this candidate was aggressively sought to accept the position after his interview. He is enthusiastic and anxious about his appointment and I wish him the greatest luck in SD. They have a fine new professor on board!

I don't know what benefit my post will provide and I was certainly reluctant to join in the fray, but sometimes I feel the need to defend people against such ill-conceived and senseless posts. I do not see any more that can be gained by continuing this particular part of this thread. I can only hope and plead it ends here.

Mike Forbes wrote:Congratulations Seth! I had heard it in the halls at UNK today as I packed up my office that you had been offered the position. I'm certain you will be very happy here and they will welcome you with open arms. I'll be getting in touch with you soon!

All the best,
Mike
Thanks Mike (and Doc and Mark)! I haven't been around here for awhile, so my apologies for the belated reply. I certainly appreciate the recruiting you did and can't wait to build on things from there. Best of luck up north!

Thanks! We've been packing/planning for a while now, so hopefully our preparation will pay off with a smooth (but long) road trip. I will definitely check out Thunderhead immediately upon arrival ... and we're actually going to be living in Shelton, so I REALLY appreciate the heads up on the Motor Inn! Cheers!
