Graduate Assistantint in Tuba/Euphonium at the University of Southern Mississippi
Duties: Teach applied euphonium and tuba, assist with USM
Euphonium/Tuba Ensemble, small ensemble coaching, and performance in ensembles as directed.
Compensation: $5,400 for 9 months (September - May) plus full in-state
and out-of-state tuition waivers for every semester the student is
enrolled full time and waivers for full time summer tuition following a
Fall and Spring semester assignment. Assistantships are awarded for two
semesters and are renewable by petition.
Audition information: In person auditions are required unless distance
is a major factor. Audition materials should be standard euphonium or
tuba repertoire, at least three works, and should reflect the
applicants ability to perform the more advanced repertoire.

The USM tuba/euphonium studio currently averages sixteen to twenty
students per year and includes talented players from across the
Southeast, as well as other regions of the United States. USM
tuba/euphonium students are active performers both on and off campus.
Among the guest performers who have recently performed here are
Demondrae Thurman, Steven Mead, Neal Corwell, Adam Frey, Jason Ham, John Griffiths, John Stevens, Kenyon Wilson, David Zerkel, the
Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, The Modern Jazz Tuba Project, and
Tubalaté. USM was also the host for the 1997 Southeast Regional
Tuba-Euphonium Conference. Students in the USM studio have won
numerous awards, including state, national and international
competitions. Alumni of the USM tuba/euphonium studio are active as
performers and teachers at all levels throughout the United States and
internationally.
