The University of Tennessee School of Music announces a position for a Graduate Assistantship in Tuba or Euphonium for the 2006-2007 year.

The University of Tennessee is located in Knoxville, on the eastern side of Tennessee.

The Tuba/Euphonium studio is led by Sande MacMorran.

Duties: Teach tuba/euphonium for non-majors. Assist with conducting and operation of the tuba ensemble. Coach chamber ensembles. Other duties as needed.

Stipend: Up to $3,243 plus tuition waiver and medical coverage

This year, I will be listening to auditions for the grad assistantship that will be open in the fall of 2007 at the University of Georgia. The primary duties of the assistantship are to play tuba in the Graduate Brass Quintet and the Georgia Brass (a large brass ensemble). Both groups are coached by Fred Mills, formerly of the Canadian Brass. Other duties would include studio teaching of music minors and helping with studio business. The assistantship covers tuiition and pays a very generous stipend (approximately $9K for MM and $10K for DMA)

The reason that I am posting this early is to encourage any interested candidates to apply early and audition in the Fall semester if at all possible. Although I can only accept one person for the studio assistantship, there is a good amount of money available for folks who bring a high undergrad GPA and a strong (1200+) GRE score to the table. I will graduate a large number of students this year, so it is time to reload!

Graduate Assistantint in Tuba/Euphonium at the University of Southern Mississippi

Duties: Teach applied euphonium and tuba, assist with USM
Euphonium/Tuba Ensemble, small ensemble coaching, and performance in ensembles as directed.

Compensation: $5,400 for 9 months (September - May) plus full in-state
and out-of-state tuition waivers for every semester the student is
enrolled full time and waivers for full time summer tuition following a
Fall and Spring semester assignment. Assistantships are awarded for two
semesters and are renewable by petition.

Audition information: In person auditions are required unless distance
is a major factor. Audition materials should be standard euphonium or
tuba repertoire, at least three works, and should reflect the
applicants ability to perform the more advanced repertoire.

The USM tuba/euphonium studio currently averages sixteen to twenty
students per year and includes talented players from across the
Southeast, as well as other regions of the United States. USM
tuba/euphonium students are active performers both on and off campus.
Among the guest performers who have recently performed here are
Demondrae Thurman, Steven Mead, Neal Corwell, Adam Frey, Jason Ham, John Griffiths, John Stevens, Kenyon Wilson, David Zerkel, the
Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, The Modern Jazz Tuba Project, and
Tubalaté. USM was also the host for the 1997 Southeast Regional
Tuba-Euphonium Conference. Students in the USM studio have won
numerous awards, including state, national and international
competitions. Alumni of the USM tuba/euphonium studio are active as
performers and teachers at all levels throughout the United States and
internationally.

Hi Friends,

I will have a graduate assistantship available at the University of Arkansas beginning in the fall of 2007. Duties include co-teaching low brass class to music ed. majors, teaching lessons, and playing in the Wind Symphony. All tuition is waived and the stipend will be at least $3300, possibly $6600.
