After 36 years Dr. Johnnie Vinson (my dad) is retiring as the Director of Bands at Auburn University. Dr. Rick Good will be promoted to Director of Bands, thereby leaving the Low Brass Professor position open. Here are the details:




The Department of Music at Auburn University announces a position in:

LOW BRASS

POSITION: Assistant Professor of Low Brass

9 month, tenure-track appointment


STARTING DATE: August 16, 2007


SALARY: Competitive, dependent on qualifications



RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach applied studio low brass to music and music education majors. Play in the faculty brass quintet. Teach low brass methods classes, coach chamber music, and possibly teach courses in the area of jazz studies depending on the teaching load and area(s) of expertise of the successful candidate. Involvement in recruitment, creative/scholarly activity, and service are expected.



QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in low brass performance (ABDs will be considered; however, appointment to the tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor requires the earned doctorate within one year). Excellence as a soloist and ensemble performer. Doubling ability, the ability to demonstrate both classical and jazz styles, and teaching experience at the college level desired. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and be able to communicate effectively in English.



GENERAL INFORMATION: Auburn University is a major comprehensive research institution with an enrollment of nearly 23,500 students. The Department of Music, with an enrollment of approximately 110 students, has thirteen tenure and tenure-track faculty and nine adjunct instructors. The degrees offered include the Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance, and in conjunction with the College of Education, the Bachelor of Music Education, the Master of Education in Music Education, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education. This position will be filled depending on available funding.
