Richard White was announced the winner of the New Mexico Symphony Audition yesterday. He just finished his 8 year tenure as MM and DMA student at Indiana University with a three year stint as tuba AI for Mr. Perantoni. He is one heck of a player (both tuba and otherwise)!

In Albuquerque, they had somewhere around 30 tuba players.

In the prelims, they asked:

Moussorgsky/Ravel - Pictures - Great Gate of Kiev "107 - 109"
Mahler - Symphony #5 - Scherzo 13 bars before 16 through 17
Wagner - Die Meistersinger - J-L
Hindemith - Symphonic Metamorphosis - Turandot 5 after L to O
Strauss - Ein Heldenleben 8 to 2 before 9

8 were advanced to the semi-final:

Keita Kimura
Charles Ortega
Richard White
Scott Beaver
Scott Choate
Adam Snider
Jason Koi
Jared Bulmer

In the semi-finals they asked:
Vaughan Williams - Concerto - movement 2 - "1 to 3rd bar of 2"
Berlioz - Corsair - 4 bars after 12 to 13
Gershwin - American in Paris - solo
Prokofiev - Symphony #5 - you know...
Wagner - Ride
Bruckner #7 - mvmt 4 - F-G
