Go get 'em, ya Kiwi! This one week looks like a kind of parallel to the few years we had in the States where all those gigs opened up; they're going fast, and probably won't be open again for quite a while. Play well, have fun, and make some music!

ps: If you win one of these, we'll all get together in the studio and do the Haka.

I rather hope u don't do the hakka, it would be quite intimidating for all the aussies in the room, myself included!

Both of us have to win at least one job out of the three! Tell u what, If u win I will give u my crusaders jersey to keep! As well as all the beers i will shout u!

If you haven't worked out who this is by now your an idiot thomas!

Oh and by the way, hows the accent going over in the states, still working its magic?

hehe

MSO Audition

Congratulations to Scott Franklin!

There were a lot of disappointed tuba players in Melbourne on Monday after the 1st round. From the 27 (I think) applicants only 3 advanced to the 2nd round on Tuesday:

Scott Franklin
Antonio Neilly-Menendez de Llano
Thomas Allely (KiwiTuba)

Only Scott was in the 3rd round.

Well done Scott!

It's scott Frankcome! not Franklin!

I'm sure he would be chuffed that we are gossipping about him, but if we could get his name right!

My apologies for getting Scott's name wrong, I'm looking forward to meeting him sometime. And yes, Fabian was a great player - big shoes to fill.

Cheers,

"Crikey! Have a go at that!"

I've just heard that the winner of the Queensland Orchestra position is none other than Thomas Allely! A hearty congratulations to a great player and all-around great guy! Looks like your trip back to the States will be to just pick up your stuff! It gets said pretty often here about audition winners, but it deserves to be said again: couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Good job, man.

Thanks guys! Your support means a lot to me.

For those who are interested, the queensland audition was in 3 rounds, about 20 people showed up to audition live, 9 advanced to the second round, 3 advanced to the third round, I was offered a trial with the orchestra and an Aussie called Gary McGibbon was the runner-up.

Looks like I'll be shouting some beers on the way back through hicago!

The AOBO (Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra) audition is on Monday 2nd April.

Will post the result when the audition is over.

Word on the street is that Peter Wish-Wilson from the Adelaide Symphony is going to retire?

Cameron, Anyone, can you confirm?

I think the first round for the AOBO job was Friday, and the final round(s) is on Monday.

I haven't spoken to Whish for a while so I don't know what his situation is. I suspect that it's wishful thinking by people who'd love another opportunity to get a playing job.
It was almost like blood in the water a while back :) - there were all sorts of rumours of both Whish and I resigning.

Good luck for Monday everyone!

This just in through the grapevine,

From the first round candidates for the AOBO,

Brendan Lukin and Matt Walmsley have advanced to the second round.

Good luck to both of them! They both deserve the job!

Further news from the AOBO audition.

Two candidates were advanced, but apparently noone was appointed. Another audition will be held in 6 months.

Disappointing outcome for everyone.

See you at the next one boys!
