As Tubonium approaches, I wanted to let you know about Alan Baer's Auditions and Excerpts clinic session. I will be looking for 2 (maybe 3) volunteers to play excerpts for Alan. This session will take place on Friday, March 9th at 4:00 pm. If you are interested in playing for him, please seek me out on that same Friday morning. I will sign people up first come first serve THAT DAY so I know that the volunteers are definitely around.

Alan has indicated that he will do some excerpt demonstrations, talk about his approach to preparing for auditions (both for college and orchestras), and then will work with a couple of volunteers to demonstrate his approach.

Should be a great learning experience!

Sorry for the slow reply - I was waiting for my account to be reactivated as I updated my email address...

Anyway, regarding the first question, the best thing to do is COME to the masterclass! There will not be a recording of the excerpts session, but I will do a Tubonium Review for the ITEA Journal.

Second, I talked to Alan, and he IS open to euphonium players as well. My guess is that I will make two lists (one tuba, one euph). Then, Alan can take the first 2-3 people and divide tuba and euph as he wants during the session.

I hope to see you there - it should be GREAT!

BrassHombre wrote:Well, it is great to get the idea that we should GO to the master class, however, being from a completely different part of the country, it is NOT possible.

I formally request SOMEONE please mini-disc it!

Thanks!
I believe that should only be done with consent of the presenter (in this case Mr. Baer). He's on this board so if someone wants to record it, it's only a question away.

Is this something you could email? I am interested as well, but it seems you have quite a few people asking for it, so maybe email would be easier and *cheaper*?

Let me know, I'd be willing to pay for the cost of the disc plus s/h, though email would be preferable.

Or perhaps someone could convert to mp3 and host it on putfile.com .... That way, it'd just be a click away for anyone who wanted to listen.

OK Gang, since this joke went over like a turd in the punchbowl, allow me to explain.

There is no recording.

Al posted his permission the evening after the class, as we were sitting around reflecting on the day. The chatter about the possibility of having it recorded struck a funny chord, so Al, myself, and Paul started posting about it facetiously. Silly me to offer copies of the recording- I've been inundated with requests ever since.
