Announcing positions for cornet (2), baritone (2), and tuba beginning August 1, 2007 or at the earliest convenience of the winning candidates. The River City Brass is an internationally acclaimed twenty-eight-piece brass ensemble celebrating its 25th anniversary season. Compensation is based per service. Scale for the 2007 – 2008 season is $110.25 per service plus a 7.5% pension contribution made by RCBB to the AFM.
A $5.00 travel allowance for all services and $40.00 cash per diem is provided for all touring dates. Instrument insurance is included. Additional compensation paid for solos and special features. There are approximately 110 services next season.
Auditions will be held for cornet on June 9th, baritone and tuba June 10th in Pittsburgh. PA. A $50.00 refundable deposit will be required of each invitee.

I didn't catch his last name but Carson was the winner of the audition yesterday. He sounded amazing. I had to play after him in both the prelims and finals. I'd never heard anyone play the Penderecki on a 6/4 Nirschl before but he played the crap out of it!!!

He's held in very high regard by those who know him here in Colorado. There's a story going around that says he played a recital at CU Boulder a few years ago where he played the Bozza concertino on his Nirschl....and he was sick with the flu sporting a 103 degree fever!:shock:

I've only heard him play once...when he an a few of his trombone buddies from the Colorado Music Festival were reading a few orchestral excerpts. I have to tell you, if you ever get the chance to hear him play, do it. It is one of the most amazing tuba sounds you'll ever hear.

Yes, it is Carson McTeer, formerly of Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO

He and his wife left Durango earlier this summer. She was the violin instructor there - principal with San Juan Symphony. It was just a matter of time before something new came up for them to leave the area.

With a new baby and all.... I wish them all the best!

There's a lot of fine tubists out there.I have to admit,I've never heard of Carson,but looking at his resume,he's apparently a heavy hitter...

Carson is an incredible player, and one of the funniest guys I know. He's a fellow Okie (Norman, OK...how we first met), studied with Dave Kirk at Rice, then New World, then Durango, Colorado. He was definitely one of the most beloved members of the New World Symphony during his time in Miami. Carson was a great inspiration for me while in Oklahoma, and ever since. I wish he, his wife & new baby (hadn't heard that news, yet) all the best!! Very talented, fun-loving family!! jobey
