JOB VACANCY NOTICE
POSITION: LOW BRASS/ATHLETIC BAND FACULTY
(One-Year Appointment)
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 2007
JOB DUTIES: Primary responsibilities include teaching applied trombone, euphonium, and tuba lessons, brass pedagogy, brass choir, low brass chamber ensembles; and hosting low brass community events throughout the year. The chosen candidate will direct the Athletic Band, which performs at all home basketball games. Additional duties may include a secondary teaching area such as music education or music appreciation, depending on the strengths of the candidate selected and institutional needs.
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Music Department is rapidly growing with eight full-time and 15 adjunct faculty members serving 65 music majors studying in undergraduate music programs at a university with over 7,000 students. The Music Department features a symphonic band and jazz band, in addition to multiple choral ensembles, many chamber music groups and combos, an opera workshop program, and a basketball band. Numerous off campus performance opportunities exist in Northwest Arkansas.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in performance or music education; a demonstrated excellence in musical performance; experience conducting instrumental ensembles; and one-year of university-level teaching experience. Desired qualifications include public school teaching experience; experience with music for chamber ensembles; and learner-centered education e experience. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
SALARY Rank and salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
