Chicago Audition 6-9-2007

Post by rascaljim »

I was recently contacted by the Music Director regarding an opening this summer.

The Classical Symphony Orchestra is holding an auditon for the position of Principal Tuba for the summer season. This is a good training orchestra. Some of their recordings have been played on WFMT in the past.

The group meets Tuesday night at 7 and Saturday Mornings at 10.

The you can register at: http://www.classicalsymphonyorchestra.o ... _form.html

The audition information is listed here: http://www.classicalsymphonyorchestra.org/classaud.htm

Audition Rep:
Wagner - Die Meistersinger
Stravinsky - Petruchka
Mahler - Symphony No. 1

If you are not able to make this date, contact the music director, Joseph Glymph.

Rep this summer:
Thomas - Raymond Overture
Hovhaness - Prelude and Quadruple Fugue, Op. 128
Wagner - Gotterdammerung: Siegfried's Rhine Journey
Dvorak - Symphony No. 8 in G Minor, Op. 88
Delius - The Walk to the Paradise Garden
Tchaikovsky - Francesca da Rimini, Op. 32
Smetana - The Moldau

As a former member, I can say it was a good learning experience and the rep was fun.

Classical Symphony is not a paying group. There is a $25 audition fee. I can't remember if there is a registration fee also. I played with the group last summer, and just can't decide whether I want to do it again (I know, audition is soon). The rep was really bad last year for tuba, so I would ride the train for an hour one-way to play for half an hour, most. I'm not complaining, but it didn't make it worth my time. The fact that it doesn't pay made the cost of those train tickets stand out.

The conductor is a really nice guy who will be sure to let you know when you're done for the day though, which I always appreciated.
