Philip Hore has been there forever. Anyone know how long?

Philip Hore joined the rsno in 1968. What a career he's had!
I am surprised that this audition has generated no comments from UK Tubenet members, at least. Maybe there's an inside choice already made.

Oh for God's sake.
Is it not customary to at least wait until the audition is over before starting in with the conspiracy theories?

Well for cryin' out loud, nobody's even asking how far it is from the rehearsal hall to the nearest pub. Just thought the tubists in the UK would comment. sheesh!

what is the position of "Leader"? If they're thriving under the current Music Director, is this the principal conductor?

The position of Leader is the UK's equivalent of Concert Master.

Seventeen?! Was it an audition or what?
On the other hand, that may not be unusual of one of the orchestras in the UK.
I have a friend whose brother-in-law has been on the timpani finals list for one of the major UK orchestras for several years. He has another gig now and is locked in but I think that orchestra still has him come in a play a stint with the orchestra every now and then while they make up their mind.

An update on this thread, as far as I know they have now got two players left in the running. Ben Thompson is one of them I believe, although I'm not sure who the other is.

I love this audition thread, it's so low key.
