You are correct, dtemp.
Don't sweat it though, basic is easy. Stupid, but easy.

TMB, could you please give us the current age limitations for this gig?
You must enlist prior to your 42nd birthday (The Army changed this regulation in 2006, the other services remain at 35)... So, elephant, especially with your prior service, there's no way you're too old.... Too fat? Well, that's fixable. If tapes are due January 14, you have at least 3 months to get that weight off before a MEPS physical.
Make your tape, hit the treadmill, and good luck!
And best wishes in retirement to Gerald Cates, a wonderful musician and person.

That deadline passed for me this past March. And I have to lose more that 100 pounds. I would have to strap the treadmill to my *** and haul it up and down 100 flights of stairs each day to lose that much in any amount of time!!!!! (Hence my nifty, elephantine moniker… )

And to think when I first met you, I called you the "BeanPole." Ahh, those days!!

Yeah, I hung a little with R at ITEC and the S*B looks better now than when he was at UNT.
Hate 'im; stupid genes!
I look like a cross between Mike Farrell (M*A*S*H* guy) and Telly Savalas...
Go figure.

Would one go through the West Point Cadet Basic or regular Army basic?

Regular Army basic. Members of this band are not Cadets, they are professional Army musicians who happen to work at West Point.

I know that MSG Cates is leaving soon. Since the deadline has passed, how long does it usually take for them to make a list of finalists? Days, Weeks, a month? Or does it just depend on the situation?
Just curious

Once the winner completes Basic Training as a Specialist (E-4) and then completes a probationary period at the same grade, he is promoted to SSG (E-6). He is then part of the Special Bands promotion system and not required to attend any part of the Army's NCO Education System. For some dry Army reading about promotions in the Special Bands, check out ch. 8 of AR 600-8-19.

They didn't notify those who sent in tapes saying that they were not invited?
tankthetuba wrote:If this is what I’m thinking it is, I have a friend who is a finalist for the West Point gig. I believe that today is the final audition for the spot. Good luck to those who got called.
I thought they said auditions were going to be in march?
Something is fishy here...
...but I suppose if they did have auditions a few days ago, what were the results?

So then anybody know an "official" verdict on this? Just curious I guess

I am not an official from the West Point Band, nor am I a tubist with them. tankthetuba was mistaken. There is nothing fishy going on. anonymous131 summed it up correctly, but just to clarify the audition has not happened yet.

Once again, I am in no way an official here at West Point... I'm not sure how many of the band member here frequent the board, so I'll tell what little I know... There was no hire this time. I am sure the dates for tapes and the audition itself will be announced in the near future.
