An apt outcome for a great player. Congrats Ben, couldn't have happened to a more deserving player.

What horn are you using there Dr. Ben Pierce. When I bought your CDs and last I heard I thought you were on a MW 45SLP. That looks like a nice horn, is that a Miraphone F?

Regarding the above post:

Bloke is good, Bloke is wise. Listen to Bloke. Particularly the part about working a year, establishing residency, and saving money for school. 6 figures in debt is no way to start your professional career.

I'll add another tidbit...search out and compete in as many competitions as you can during your undergraduate years. There are many, many competitions out there and they provide terrific experience for learning to audition for a playing job and/or compete for a teaching job later on (also, if you win a few, the extra $$$ is a nice bonus). You will meet many prominent names in the music profession as judges, as well. Don't wait on your professors to tell you about these...seek them out yourself.

Way to go, Bloke...Amen, brother.

this is the first that i remember LABEYRIE STEPHANE (France) got beat in tuba competition. that is big acomplishment for ben and the US. it is been along time since a US player have won a major competition overseas, at least the first prize.

I wouldn't agree that it's been a long time since a U.S. tubist won first place overseas. Ben and Carol Janstch won first at Markneukirchen, Germany in '04 and '08. Ben and I won fist at Jeju, Korea in '06 and '08.
