Lieksa Brass Week has a competition. It rotates, so the tuba or euphonium comes up in different years every 5 or 6 years or so. <www.lieksabrass.com>

There is also the Tubhonium Competition for tuba and euphonium held every year at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, MN. <www.houseoflowaire.com>

ITEC always has several competitions. Usually, solo competitions for both artist and young artist divisions of both instruments, band excerpt competition, orchestra excerpt competition, quartet competition, sometimes a jazz competition and they've tried to do a quintet competition, but I don't know if it has ever happened.

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp also hosts the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Competition. This one has artist and young artist divisions for both instruments as well. <www.falconefestival.org>

What would be a good mock orchestral audition to go to for a college student?

ITEC has the only one that I know of. Almost all competitions are judged on performances of solos.

Hello,

There's a very nice competition held every two years in Jeju, Korea. The prize money and guest artists are great. Each brass instrument has its own division. Prizes are awarded for scoring above a certain level, so each division will not necessarily have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner. However, the tuba division has always had at least a 1st place winner. Not surprisingly, that was Ben Pierce this year. Two years ago it was myself. Hungarians Szentpali, Kurucz, and Timar took 1st place in the first three competitions. The website is: http://jiwef.org/english/competition/sub_01.php" target="_blank

There's also Brno (http://www.mhf-brno.cz/mis/en/podminky.asp" target="_blank) and Aeolus (http://www.aeoluswettbewerb.de/en/" target="_blank).

The Midland-Odessa Symphony National Young Artist Competition has been tuba- and euphonium-friendly in the past. I won 1st place in the winds/percussion division in 2005, and I believe Adam Frey did the same a couple of years earlier.

I believe that there is a competition called the Japan Wind and Percussion Competition, but I can't find any information about it on the web. Does anyone have information about this competition?
