tubaist (like oboist) was the accepted spelling for many years, before someone decided that it was incorrect. Violist notwithstanding, I would still debate the etymology of that decision. I think
tubist sounds like someone who make tubes.

^The more I really think about it, you and bloke are "more correct" on the "tubaist vs. tubist" thing. A 'tubaist' just seems more "correct" than 'tubist'.
Same thing applies for this BBS website: Tub
aNet makes more sense than the actual website name, TubeNet.

Whether it's spelled tubist or tubaist, I pronounce it tuba player.
