First one of the year:

The School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University seeks applications for a full-time teacher and performer of tuba in a tenure-track appointment; Assistant/Associate rank. Start date: August 1, 2012.

Primary duties include teaching of undergraduate and graduate applied tuba, development of a strong tuba studio, performance of solo and chamber music, and recruiting and service to the profession. Additional duties depend on the individual strengths of the candidate selected and the needs of the school, and will include some combination of teaching euphonium, coaching or conducting brass ensembles, teaching of brass literature and pedagogy, teaching of brass techniques and/or other subjects.

The School of Music at MTSU is a comprehensive, rapidly growing program with 33 full-time and ca. 50 adjunct faculty members serving 365 music majors studying in 10 undergraduate and 9 graduate music concentrations, in a university with 26,500 students. The Stones River Chamber Players, a faculty ensemble, provides on-campus and touring performing opportunities. MTSU ensembles include a wide range of orchestral, wind band, choral, jazz, chamber and specialty ensembles, as well as opera workshop. Numerous off-campus performance opportunities exist in the Nashville area. MTSU carries the designation of All-Steinway School.

MTSU is located in Murfreesboro, a city of 100,000 just 35 miles southeast of Nashville. The university's music programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, and is home to the Center for Popular Music, a leading archive and research center for American vernacular music. Excellence in teaching, research/creative activity and service is expected for all positions. MTSU seeks candidates committed to using integrative technologies in teaching.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in music by the beginning date of the appointment is desired; ABD candidates considered. Alternatively, a documented active and substantive teaching and performing career (coupled with a masters degree) will be considered in lieu of a doctorate.
Evidence of an active performance career is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Higher education teaching experience is preferred.

GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY -- Affiliate Professor of Tuba. .66 FTE Affiliate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium in the Department of Music beginning August 8, 2012. Affiliate Faculty positions are renewable one-year appointments which after two years may be renewed as revolving three year contracts, depending on satisfactory performance and continued teaching needs of the department. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively teach at the university level in the areas of individual tuba and euphonium studio instruction. They will be team-oriented and willing to collaborate in faculty performances and will recruit undergraduate tuba and euphonium students. Preference will be given to candidates who have substantial experience in the discipline or have earned at a minimum the Master of Music degree. Primary duties will include the teaching and mentoring of university level tuba and euphonium students and performance on tuba with the GVSU Brass Quintet. The successful candidate may be asked to teach in a secondary teaching area. Any such teaching assignment will be dependent upon the successful candidate's qualifications and interests and the needs of the Music Department. Possible secondary teaching areas may include brass methods, music appreciation and literature or fundamental music theory courses. Position/Job Summary The Ithaca College School of Music announces a full-time, tenure-eligible position for a teacher-performer of tuba/euphonium to begin in the fall of 2012. Weird... This guy lists that he is "Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Ithaca College, School of Music." Maybe he's "adjunct" or "interim..." :?:

That GVSU gig is a tough one... :|

I see in that thread "tubadork" (Bill) mentions that he heard that it was a one year appointment. That must be the case. Makes perfect sense.

Description
Jacksonville University, a private liberal arts institution, is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor/Director of Marching Band to begin January 2012. In a nutshell...

"Regional accreditation" = academic, non-profit schools (like a state university)
"National accreditation" = technical/vocational, for-profit schools

Any tuba, music performance, or education degree would be from a regionally accredited school.
