Hi Everyone,

I am announcing the audition dates for The University of Vermont, Department of Music.

October 22, 2011 (for early action students)
January 28, 2012
February 10, 2012
February 25, 2012
March 16, 2012 (for transfer students)

The campus is located in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. One thing that this town really impresses me is that there are so many classical music lovers. Someone just started a community orchestra here, and there were over 200 people who wanted to play, while there are already several orchestras in town! Another interesting orchestra in town is the Green Mountain Mahler Festival Orchestra, which is made up of all volunteers who just love Mahler and other huge orchestra works that cannot be done by the local orchestras. They give concerts and reading sessions a few times a year.

The university has a symphony orchestra, a wind ensemble, a band, several jazz ensembles, couple of choirs, and several chamber ensembles. I am hoping to see a tuba euphonium ensemble here soon! In recent years, the orchestra has done Planets, Enigma Variations, Firebird, Shosti 5, Pictures (arr. Ravel), Symphonic Dances (Bernstein), Scheherazade, etc.

We are particularly looking for more tuba, euphonium and trombone.
