I have openings for both undergraduate and graduate tuba students at Kent State. Kent State has just announced additional scholarships for brass players of up to $5000 a year. These scholarships are available for BOTH graduate and undergraduate students. The dates for these scholarship auditions are on March 3 and April 14.
The School of Music offers majors in Music Education and Music. Music majors can select concentrations in Performance, Theory or Composition. Music Education majors can choose either the Choral/General or Instrumental concentration. Graduate M.M. degrees are offered in Conducting, Music Education, and Performance. Graduate M.A. degrees are offered in Composition, Ethnomusicology, Musicology, and Theory.
Undergraduate students who have a high school GPA of at least 3.4, and an ACT 24 or SAT 1090 are highly encouraged to apply, as the Honors College can help provide large scholarships.
The following links should provide some insight into the campus and School of Music.

Below are the remaining audition dates for Kent State, although most prospective tuba students will also visit on Friday to observe studio class and meet the other members of the studio. Kent State also accepts recorded auditions.
Some points about the tuba studio to consider:
- The KSU Tuba Studio hosts guest clinicians once a semester to provide a broader view of the musical world.
- The Tuba Studio has a designated room for lessons and individual practice sessions. The studio includes recording and playback equipment, musical library, and a digital piano.
- Tom Lukowicz maintains an active performance schedule with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Starkweather Brass. Students are provided complimentary tickets on a rotating basis.
- Members of the studio have performed with the Key West Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Brass Quintet, and the Starkweather Brass.
- Alumni hold substitute positions with the Canton Symphony and other regional orchestras. Students have been placed into programs at the Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Akron, Berklee College of Music, and the Artist Diploma program at Duquesne University. A recent graduate has been selected as the tuba player for the 2011 YouTube Symphony Orchestra.

Re: Kent State University - Undergrad and Graduate openings
Hi all! I was never a tuba student per se at KSU, although I was a GA on another brass instrument this past year (please don't call me a traitor! I was a tuba player first! I only played the other instrument because I already finished my M.M. in tuba 8 years ago!).
I just wanted to put in a good word for Tom. He is an incredible player, and equally terrific as a teacher. On many occasions I found myself wishing I could avail myself of the opportunity to attend the master classes and clinics Tom has hosted. He is definitely doing great things at KSU, and this studio is becoming a force to be reckoned with! (One example: KSU represented twice-over in the Lyric finals - by Tom himself and his former GA John DiCesare, of YouTube Symphony fame!)
I encourage you to check out KSU if you are looking for a college or M.M. program! You won't be sorry! I can assure you that once I start playing tuba again, Tom will be one of my first stops for a tuba lesson!
