I'm looking to see if anyone knows of any assistantships or fellowships for fall 13. I plan on doing tuba performance and was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction. I'm reposting this from the general tuba talk thing. Please and thank you!

Hi,

While I don't have the dedicated studio assistantship available for the fall, there are other ways to get funded at UGA. If your grades are very good and you can score 315 or above on your combined GRE score, you might be a very good candidate for funding from the Grad School. Alternatively, if you have a great demonstrated proficiency in an area where we need instructional help (ear training, theory, music appreciation, rock history, etc.) you could be a good candidate for funding.

Please shoot me a note if you have any further questions!

Best,
DZ

I think the best thing for you to do is to create a list of the schools you want to attend. Consider who the teacher is, what kinds of performance opportunities there will be, and if it is in an area where you can start your own studio. Once you have created this list, contact each of those teachers and simply ask them if they anticipate a tuba-euphonium TA position for next year. It never hurts to keep open lines of communication open with prospective teachers. When you are on their radar, they might be inclined to keep an eye out for additional funding! Good luck!
