Tuba Assistantship

Post by Rawtuba »

I know this is early but with the New Mexico Philharmonic season scheduling becomes difficult. Please note that in addition to the assistantship there will be openings and scholarships available for both undergraduate and graduate tuba and euphonium. Thanks for taking time to read this post. I am looking forward to talking with all interested applicants. rawhite@unm.edu" target="_blank

BRASS QUINTET ASSISTANTSHIP

POSITION AVAILABLE STARTING FALL 2013: TUBA

RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include performing with the UNM Graduate Brass Quintet, the UNM Wind Symphony, and/or the UNM Symphony Orchestra as needed. Additional duties may include assisting the faculty with brass fundamentals classes for music education majors, coaching undergraduate brass chamber music ensembles, teaching applied lessons for non-majors, and assisting the faculty with undergraduate recruitment. Members of the quintet receive regular coaching with members of the UNM Brass Faculty and principal brass players in the New Mexico Philharmonic and assist the Department of Music in the recruitment of undergraduate students through performances and clinics in area high schools.

STIPEND: This is a two-year (four-semester) half-assistantship, with total workload of 10 hours per week. Contract is by semester, but renewable if work is satisfactory. The stipend is approximately $6233 per academic year, in addition to a waiver of tuition (exclusive of special course fees) for up to 6 credits per semester (does not apply to summer tuition). Any additional hours, including summer coursework, can be taken at the resident tuition rate.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Submit recording by January 17th. All other materials, including the Graduate Financial Application Form, the online application form, fee and all supplemental application materials, are due by February 1. In addition to other application materials, applicants for brass assistantships should submit to the Graduate Coordinator a current resume, a repertoire list of solo works performed and a letter of interest indicating the particular assistantship the student is seeking.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible for an assistantship whose duties involve teaching, an international student must demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by the TOEFL: A minimum score of 250 on the computerized version of the test will be required (equivalent to 600 for the paper-based or 100 for the internet version).

RULES GOVERNING ASSISTANTSHIPS: Information may be found in the Department of Music Graduate Handbook, and in the "Graduate Program" section of the UNM Catalog.

I second that and if you're a prospective grad that needs work then you absolutely cannot ignore this.
