WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY


POSITION
Tuba

RANK
Assistant Professor, full time, tenure track

SALARY

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate required. (Masters degree with significant progress toward the doctorate or professional experience equivalent to doctoral work will be considered); demonstrated excellence in solo and ensemble performance required; demonstrated success as a teacher required, preferably at the university level. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills, as well as maintain an active career in his or her profession, fulfilling all expectations of faculty membership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach studio tuba/euphonium, tuba methods, brass chamber music, and perform with the Western Brass Quintet, resident faculty quintet. Other duties as appropriate to the qualification of the candidate and the needs of the School. Recruitment, creative/scholarly activity, and service appropriate for a university faculty member

SCHOOL OF MUSIC
The School of Music, along with the Departments of Art, Dance, and Theatre is a part of the College of Fine Arts and has 39 full-time faculty and 12 staff, approximately 420 music majors, and NASM accreditation. Degree programs include Bachelor and Master of Music. Majors include performance, music education, composition, music therapy, and jazz studies.

UNIVERSITY

Western Michigan University, a Doctoral/Research Universities-Extensive institution, enrolls approximately 28,000 students, with 25 percent at the graduate level, and has approximately 770 faculty. The University consists of six degree granting colleges, a graduate college, and a honors college. It is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a musically active metropolitan community of 250,000 located midway between Detroit and Chicago.
