I am happy to announce a position for Athletic Band GTA at Emporia State University. Since I teach both the Athletic Bands and the low brass studio, I am looking for a low brass student who isn't afraid of getting his/her hands dirty. This is a time intensive position, but a wonderful school to attend and is nestled among other great schools/pedagogues. ESU offers a Master's in Music in both performing and education, and it is one of the nation's leading schools for education.

As someone who held this position under Dr. Gay during the 2011-12 school year, I must let it be known that this would be an absolutely wonderful opportunity for a motivated individual. The ESU Music Department is a place in which you will have opportunities you would not have in a larger school -- you will not just be one face in a sea of people you don't know.

I worked closely with nearly all of the department faculty at one time or another. I was depended upon to be a "go-to" guy from the moment you arrived. I had the opportunity to rehearse and direct several different university ensembles, even though I was not doing a conducting degree. Best of all, I was able to work every day with one of the finest euphonium players in the world, Dr. Nathan Gay. If you really want to take your musicianship to the next level -- especially as a low brass player, and MOST especially as a euphonium player -- you should seriously consider contacting Dr. Gay.

(I know you're blushing by now, Dr. Gay, but I had to put in my $.02 on this!)

P.S. -- For those of you who love marching band/pep band, you will love the opportunity to work with a group in which EVERY member has to be able to play! There are no "horn holders" used as filler to make the band look bigger -- it's very refreshing.

P.P.S -- For those of you who loathe marching band/pep band, don't be scared. It's really not bad at all, and I guarantee you that no matter your opinion of athletic bands, if you come with an open mind, you WILL have fun and learn a LOT. You won't be able to help it! Also, just keep reminding yourself that marching band involvement is a small price to pay for the other unique opportunities you will have working with Dr. Gay.
